VET TEC 2.0 (Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses) is a workforce development program administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and delivered at ICOHS College. It helps eligible veterans gain technology skills, earn industry certifications, and build a successful career in high-demand IT fields.

The program is different from many education programs because the real purpose is employment, not just finishing classes or passing exams. Career preparation begins from the very start of the program.

• You will attend class, complete assignments, practice hands-on skills, and prepare for certification exams.
• At the same time, you will work with Career Services to build your resume, improve your LinkedIn profile, and prepare for interviews.

VET TEC is a separate VA education benefit with its own eligibility requirements and funding structure. The VA determines eligibility for the program. Unlike traditional education benefits, VET TEC is specifically designed to prepare veterans for employment and career advancement.

The program is delivered through online and hybrid instruction and consists of two modules, each with its own enrollment agreement. Students must successfully complete Module I before progressing to Module II.

• Module I — CompTIA A+: 270 clock hours, 15 weeks (three courses). Entry-level IT topics include computer hardware, Windows operating systems, technical troubleshooting, customer support, and IT fundamentals.
• Module II — CompTIA Network+: 180 clock hours, 10 weeks (two courses). Topics include networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, network configuration, wireless networking, network security, and infrastructure support.

Combined, the two modules total 25 weeks, and they run one after the other (A+ first, then Net+). Career Services is included from enrollment through graduation. Career paths include IT Support, Help Desk, Desktop Support, and Network Support. Admissions are selective, and students provide their own computer and high-speed internet.

The CompTIA A+ pathway consists of three courses, each building on the previous one:

• ITF 100 (Information Technology Fundamentals) — foundational IT knowledge plus the first portion of A+ Core 1 objectives: hardware fundamentals, basic networking, operating systems, software installation, security awareness, cloud concepts, professional communication, and troubleshooting methodology.
• PC 101 — completes the remaining Core 1 objectives and begins Core 2: PC components, building/upgrading computers, mobile devices, printers, networking hardware, Windows installation/configuration, and hardware/device troubleshooting.
• PC 102 — completes Core 2 objectives: advanced Windows administration, Linux and macOS fundamentals, software troubleshooting, security best practices, malware removal, operational procedures, documentation, professionalism, and customer service.

The Network+ module consists of two courses: Net 101 and Net 102. After completing Net 102, you become eligible to request your Network certification exam voucher.

If you want to take both the A+ and Net+ modules, you must complete two enrollment agreements. Contact Admissions so they can send you the second enrollment agreement to sign.

Whether the VA will certify both modules back-to-back is determined by the VA. Contact the Veterans team for the current status.

No. There are no traditional textbooks to purchase. Everything you need is built directly into your learning platforms — CompTIA, uCertify, VitalSource, and Canvas.

The course content is custom-developed by the platform providers and aligned directly to certification objectives, so it stays current. You can find physical third-party books, but they are optional, purchased on your own, and their chapters will not match your modules one-to-one.

Meeting VA eligibility requirements does not automatically guarantee admission to ICOHS College. We evaluate each applicant to determine whether the program is an appropriate fit and whether the applicant demonstrates the commitment necessary to succeed in a rigorous, employment-focused training program.

There are three steps to apply:

• 1. Complete the Intake Form: Complete the ICOHS College VET TEC 2.0 Intake Form.
• 2. Submit your documentation: Submit all required documents, including your DD214, Certificate of Eligibility (COE), government-issued identification, resume, and any additional requested documents.
• 3. Meet with an Admissions Representative: Interview to discuss your career goals, program expectations, technology readiness, and commitment to completing the program.

Applicants are placed into one of three admissions pathways based on their employment status and career goals:

• Tier 1 — Career Advancement: Veterans currently employed in Information Technology who are seeking certifications, promotions, expanded responsibilities, or increased earning potential. Qualified Tier 1 applicants may proceed directly to orientation once accepted.
• Tier 2 — Career Transition: Veterans currently employed outside the technology industry who are seeking to transition into an IT career. Applicants complete a Career Readiness Review before an admissions decision is made.
• Tier 3 — Employment-Focused: Veterans who are currently unemployed and seeking to begin a career in Information Technology. Applicants complete a Career Readiness Review before an admissions decision is made.

The Career Readiness Review evaluates whether an applicant is prepared for an intensive technology training program and committed to pursuing employment after graduation. The review may include:

• Resume evaluation
• Career goal discussion
• Technology aptitude conversation
• Professional communication assessment
• Employment planning
• Commitment to completing the program

Applicants may receive one of the following decisions: Accepted, Conditionally Accepted, Waitlisted, or Denied. Our goal is to admit students who are prepared to succeed academically and professionally.

Students must complete the orientation assessment and required onboarding activities before beginning classes.

Yes. If you cannot start on your scheduled date, email the Veterans team and let them know when you would like to start. They will defer your start and send you an updated enrollment agreement for that session.

Many students begin the program with little or no technology experience. Our curriculum starts with foundational concepts before progressing to more advanced networking topics.

Students should expect to dedicate approximately 20–30 hours each week to coursework, labs, studying, and certification preparation.

Every course is 90 clock hours completed over 5 weeks, which works out to 18 hours per week.

Clock hours represent the actual time you spend engaged in instruction and learning activities, including live lectures, labs, assignments, and study time.

Attendance is tracked by your submission of weekly assignments in Canvas — not by logging in at a set time or attending a live session.

Each week is structured for 18 clock hours of attendance, divided across that week's assignments. For example:

• If a week has 18 assignments, each submitted assignment earns 1 hour of attendance.
• If a week has 9 assignments, each submitted assignment earns 2 hours.

Assignments scored 0 or missed earn 0 clock hours. Hours accumulate cumulatively across all five weeks.

ICOHS College is a clock-hour school with a 90% attendance requirement. Since each course is 90 clock hours, you must accrue a minimum of 81 hours by the end of week 5 to pass.

Attendance hours are earned by submitting your assignments. If you do not reach 81 hours, you cannot pass the course — even if your course grade is high.

There are two separate requirements, and you must meet both:

• Attendance: at least 81 of 90 clock hours (90% attendance), earned through assignment submissions.
• Course grade: a minimum of 70%.

These are independent. A student can earn a high course grade and still not pass if they do not reach the 81-hour attendance minimum.

All weekly assignments are due on Sundays at 11:59 PM your local time.

As long as you submit everything by that deadline, you are on track for the week.

Because the courses are dense 5-week programs, there is a 14-day engagement policy: any student who goes two consecutive calendar weeks without submitting any assignments in Canvas must be administratively withdrawn from the program.

Submitting assignments every week avoids this.

Yes. The program structure is flexible. Assignments are due Sundays at 11:59 PM and live mentorship sessions are recorded, so you can complete your work around a full-time job as long as you submit assignments on time and stay engaged each week.

Each course holds a weekly live mentorship call via Microsoft Teams, lasting 1 hour and 50 minutes.

• These are not first-exposure lectures — pre-recorded lecture videos already cover the material. The live calls are for Q&A, certification practice, instructor-guided problem solving, and group discussion.
• If you miss a call, recordings are available in Microsoft Teams.

Students prepare for CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+. These certifications are awarded by CompTIA, not by ICOHS College, and require passing the applicable CompTIA exam.

The curriculum follows a structured learning pathway. Students must successfully complete Module I – CompTIA A+ before progressing to Module II – CompTIA Network+. Certification examination vouchers are released in accordance with institutional policy and academic readiness.

You earn the CompTIA A+ certification, one of the most respected entry-level IT credentials. To earn it you must:

• Successfully complete the three academic courses (ITF 100, PC 101, PC 102), and
• Pass both certification exams: Core 1 and Core 2.

The A+ certification is awarded only after you pass both Core 1 and Core 2.

Yes. Approved certification examination vouchers are included at no additional cost according to program requirements and academic readiness. Voucher distribution may require satisfactory attendance, academic progress, and instructor approval. You request them through Canvas when eligible:

• A+ Core 1 voucher: after week 3 of the PC 101 course.
• A+ Core 2 voucher: after completing the PC 102 course.
• Network voucher: after completing the Net 102 course.

Once you receive a voucher, you may schedule your exam whenever you feel prepared.

Your certification exams are administered by Pearson VUE, CompTIA's official testing provider. You have two options:

• At an authorized Pearson VUE testing center — ICOHS College also has an on-site testing center on campus.
• Online from home using Pearson VUE's secure online proctoring system.

The program can be taken either fully online or as a hybrid.

• Online: Fully remote. You complete weekly assignments in Canvas, attend live online lectures, and do hands-on simulation labs from home.
• Hybrid: The same online coursework and live lectures, plus required in-person lab sessions on the San Diego campus to establish residency.

The delivery option you choose can affect your Monthly Housing Allowance. Housing allowance amounts are determined solely by the VA, not by ICOHS College. Contact the VA or our Veterans team to understand how your choice affects your benefit.

Email the Veterans team as early as possible so they can resend your enrollment agreement. The enrollment agreement, sent via DocuSign, includes the option to select your mode of delivery and your schedule. This choice matters because it can affect your VA housing allowance.

Possibly not for the fully online option. ICOHS College is not a member of NC-SARA, and certain states — including Georgia and New York — have residency rules that prevent online delivery for students whose primary residence is in those states.

If your primary residence is Georgia or New York, contact the Veterans team so they can discuss alternatives.

Yes. For fully online students, the lab work consists of simulation labs completed from home. The on-campus in-person labs apply only to hybrid students establishing residency.

Yes. Practical laboratory exercises are an essential part of the program and help students apply classroom concepts to real-world scenarios.

The VA establishes specific participation requirements for benefit eligibility. When required by the VA, students must complete any mandatory in-person training, residency, or attendance requirements established for the approved program. Failure to satisfy applicable VA participation requirements may affect housing allowance eligibility.

ICOHS College communicates any required in-person activities before the beginning of each training module.

Hybrid students attend one lab session per 10-week certifying period — not weekly.

Because your start date may fall in the middle of a certifying period, you may need to attend twice within your first 10 weeks. Confirm your specific required dates with the Veterans team, since they depend on your start date.

Yes. If you are within driving distance, you may book as many lab slots as you wish. The required minimum is one per certifying period, but additional visits are welcome.

On-campus lab days are structured and run from your start time until you finish your lab work, with an instructor present to answer questions.

• You can work on simulation or hands-on labs and ask questions.
• Guest speakers appear at some sessions.
• If you are ready, you can take your certification exam at the on-site testing center while you are on campus.

Labs are held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Yes. There is ample street parking, and the campus is located near a park with additional parking.

Yes. A computer or laptop is required because all of the learning happens on your device. ICOHS College does not provide a computer — students are responsible for providing their own.

If you do not have one, contact the Veterans team. A limited number of loaner laptops may be available at additional cost.

We recommend one of the following:

• Windows 11 or newer (Intel i5 / Ryzen 5 or higher), 16 GB RAM, SSD storage
• Apple M-Series Mac, 16 GB RAM

While we cannot guarantee employment, we are committed to preparing you to compete successfully for technology positions through education, certifications, and career development.

Yes. In addition to Career Services support throughout the program, ICOHS College works with a partner organization, Job Machine, which can provide services such as mock interviews.

Yes. Even if you already have a job, Career Services works with you throughout the program, with the goal shifting toward enhancing your career or helping you earn a promotion. The partnership continues after graduation.

Eligible students may receive a Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Eligibility and payment amounts are determined solely by the VA and are based on current federal regulations.

ICOHS College does not determine housing allowance eligibility, payment amounts, or payment schedules. Contact the VA directly with questions regarding MHA or other education benefit payments.

ICOHS College certifies students with the VA approximately 14 days after the start of the session. You also need to verify your enrollment through the VA portal.

Once both the school's certification and your VA verification are confirmed and there are no pending documents, your benefits should begin. For specific timing, contact the Veterans team.

You verify your enrollment with the VA approximately every 10 weeks through the VA portal.

The process is two-sided: ICOHS College certifies you on the school's side, and you must also verify your enrollment in your VA account. Both must be confirmed for benefits to flow.

ICOHS College certifies student enrollment to the Department of Veterans Affairs in accordance with applicable VA regulations. Students are responsible for promptly notifying the Registrar of any changes that may affect enrollment status, including:

• Withdrawal from the program
• Extended absences
• Changes in enrollment
• Military activation
• Changes in contact information

Failure to report changes may affect VA education benefits.

Submit your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to ICOHS College. Once you enroll, the school notifies the VA through the certifying process. If there are no pending documents, benefits follow certification.

Yes. Participation is limited to 4,000 paid participants per fiscal year, and Congress may adjust participation limits at any time. See va.gov for current status.

Because of the cap, submitting your COE and completing enrollment early is advisable.

To switch to ICOHS College, you need to do two things:

• Let the VA know you are switching to ICOHS College.
• Contact your previous school and tell them not to certify you, so your benefits are not tied up with them.

No. This is a short-term program and traditional financial aid is not available for it. The program is funded through VA VET TEC benefits.

Students considering withdrawal should immediately contact Student Services and the Business Office, as withdrawing may affect VA benefits and future eligibility.

VET TEC is designed for students serious about building a career in technology. Students are expected to:

• Attend class regularly and complete all assignments and laboratory exercises
• Prepare for and take certification examinations seriously
• Monitor their college email and Canvas announcements
• Communicate promptly with instructors and staff, and stay engaged with Career Services
• Notify the College of changes affecting enrollment
• Apply for jobs, attend interviews, and provide employment updates when requested
• Cooperate with post-graduation employment outcome reporting

We understand that unforeseen circumstances may occur — personal illness, family emergencies, military obligations, natural disasters, or other significant life events. Notify your instructor and Student Services as soon as possible.

Whenever appropriate and permitted by institutional and VA policies, ICOHS College will work with you to identify available options and support services. Early communication is essential.

VET TEC is an employment-focused program. To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, the VA requires schools to report graduate employment outcomes. Students may be asked to provide employment information after graduation, including:

• Employment status
• Employer
• Job title
• Start date
• Career advancement information

A successful ICOHS College VET TEC student:

• Attends class consistently
• Completes coursework and laboratory assignments
• Earns industry certifications
• Participates actively in Career Services
• Demonstrates professionalism
• Obtains employment or advances in their current career
• Maintains communication with ICOHS College after graduation regarding employment outcomes
